Ayrton Senna da Silva – Legend That Still Lives

Ayrton Senna In Memories

Ayrton Senna da Silva

Ayrton Senna is the last pilot that died in an accident during his performance at the F1 race on May,1st in 1994. He was born on March,21st, 1960 in San Paolo as son of Milton da Silva, rich industrialist and big landowner. His wife Neide Senna was Italian. Since little Ayrton was interested in cars and car races, his passion for speed and powerfull machines had shown at 4 years old age. At only 7 he learned to drive at the grandfather’s property, on an old jeep and then he improved the technique in which he didn’t use clutch to change gear speed.

Early successes on the racetrack

The first kart he was driving was designed by his father. At 13 years of age he started to compete. On first races he showed his talent and in 1977 won South American kart championship. At that time enrolled at the univerisity for commerce, but left after only three months. From 1978 till 1981 he participated in karting championship where in 1979 and 1980 ended second.

Ayrton Senna karting

In 1981 moved in England where he participated in Formula Ford 1600 races, but under the pressure of his parents, he returned in Brazil to work on the family farm.

Then came invitation from England for Ayrton to compete at the Formula Ford 1600 races championship, so Senna decided to come back at the British Isles using his mother’s surname as more speciffic, because da Silva was very often name in Brazil.

Facing the great talent

Senna in 1982 won the England and European championship at Formula Ford 2000. Next year after big efforts won the title of Formula 3 championship of England. In 1984 participated in Formula 1, driving for small team – Toleman. First recognition of his big talent was at the Grand Prix race in Monaco when despite the rain, that rained during the hall race, Senna literally was chasing the winner Alain Prost. Although he started as 13th, if the race wasn’t finished earlier becouse of the weather, Senna probably could beat Prost. So he ended up second wining his first F1 podium.

The “Lotus” era

From 1985 to 1987 Senna was driving for the Lotus team, but he wasn’t satisfied with the bolide. Already in 1985 and 1986 showed how fast he was, ending up at the forth position in both seasons.

In 1987 after big troubles with FIA ( world agency that regulates and leads motorsports), which found some defects in the stopping system of the bolide, he ended season as third.

Since 1988 till 1993 drove for the big McLaren team. Those were Senna’s “golden ages”. But at the same time, the big rivalry with the team copilot Alain Prost was born.

Big rivalry with Prost

Problems and duels between the two big drivers was real spectacle which contributed greater popularization of F1 on global level, but at the same time were very dangerous for the lifes of both of them. That season’s bolide was equiped with the fantastic V6 turbo Honda’s aggregate. In that season Senna and Prost won 15 of 16 races in which Senna won 8, so that’s how he won his first F1 championship. The next year, 1989 rivalry between Senna and Prost culminated -  Senna ended the season as second with 6 wins and 1 second place. But this championship were detected with a lot of controversies and problems with FIA because of his clash with Prost at the Grand Prix race in Japan. Prost got out from the race and Senna with help by the wardens  next to the path got back and won the race. But the race stewards after two hours of debate, after finishing the race considered that Senna received illegal help from the wardens and he was disqualified. The result was obvious. Prost was champion! Already the next year, the French left in Ferrari and Senna remained the only “number 1“ in McLaren.

The youngest triple F1 champion

In 1990 Senna became champion for second time, thus again (un)intentionaly collided with Prost and kicked him out of the race, again at the Grand Prix in Japan.

Although both of them dropped out, Senna had enough poens for the title. The next year, 1991, he repeated the success becoming the youngest triple F1 champion, with 60 pole positions. In 1992 McLaren’s bolide wasn’t at the level like the previous season and Senna won only in Monaco, Hungary and Italy ending the season as forth.

Same year had a couple incidents with the young Schumacher. In 1993 Senna had bigger problems with the new bolide which wasn’t so much competitive.

Under big pressure and the nervous he caused incident hitting on a side Eddie Jordan – owner of Jordan team.

Hint of tragedy and death

In 1994 Senna left in Williams – Renault team with 20 million dollars deal per season and 1 million dollars for one single race. But new rules were introduced for that season’s bolides : wasn’t allowed active reliance, sliding control and no ABS – system. Senna said that his bolide was heavy to manage and control and a lot of collisions could be expected, so he would be very happy if nothing bad happens.

It’s like he hinted the tragedy. At the race in Italy, at the training died Roland Ratzenberger. Senna was very upset and at the same race, on 4th of May, with speed of 330 km/h he failed in corner, lost control, started braking in only two seconds, reduced speed on 217 km/h and hit into concrete wall.

Legend that still lives

From the legal review of the accident was concluded that accident occurred some defect in the transmission system.

His funeral was big world event. Over hundred thousand Brazilians and over million fans around world grieved for him. In Brazil were declared three days of national mourning. On the streets in San Paolo at the day of the funeral were three millions people.

On the grave was written “Nothing can separate me from the love of God”.

Ayrton Senna was big humanist who helped many people. Gave money to the poor, financing a lot of projects for them. After his death a Foundation was established that does the same till now.

Many big boulevards in Brazil, Portugal and England are named after him and statues of him are all around Italy, Brazil and England.

In his honor are written songs and today’s F1 pilots consider that Senna was the best pilot of all times.

Beautiful Creation on Four Wheels – Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione

 Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione driving

This super car is considered for most beautiful creation on four wheels in the last couple of decades. The design and aesthetic inspiration had in models launched by the Italian brand in the 50’s and 60’s of the last century. Also, Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was very important for Alfa Romeo as trademark of this brand Renaissance, which in that segment wasn’t present since 1967. Then is manufactured the “33 Stradale” model that had V8 engine, centrally built at the back, in strictly limited series of only 12 samples.

American Icon – Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray-Now and Then

Seventh generation of the legendary model evokes memories of the super performance Stungray in 1963 and is characterized with light, rigid structure of carbon fibers and aluminum, with ideal mass schedule 50:50.
New generation of the American icon Corvette, we must admit, looks impressive. Lower hood reduces the figure besides the bigger wheelbase. Slightly rounded lines and more distinctive rear lights are marking the step forward in the design. Changes are bigger at the interior which now is made with hand upholstered leather. There are sports seats with side holders made of magnesium and 8 inches display in color of the central console.

Captures with smaller sports managing wheel and control board and the central console turned towards the driver. But still there isn’t anything innovative and not seen yet in the class. Manufacturer declares that the powerful V8 engine with 450 hp allows Corvette to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds. Price is still not defined, but from the company they say it will be a price that allows Corvette to stay hit between American muscle cars.

Acura MDX Concept From the Future

2014 Acura MDX Concept

So, this is about concept that is in final condition. With the sculptural air styling of the design, Acura MDX acts futuristic, but functional too, which is actually the purpose of this Japanese vehicle with seven seats. The big headlights with LED technology are looking striking, the lower roof is giving some more dynamic figure and that cannot be neglected, increases the aerodynamics and reduces fuel consumption for 16%. Wheelbase is also increased, which gives more space for knees for the second row seats and easier approach to the third row. It is used 3.5 liters VTEC SOHC V6 petrol engine, with variable cylinder managing.
